Celebrating the Art of Spain - Santa Fe Style

Santa Fe offers some pretty unique and special events most of the year, but during the holidays hardly a minute goes by when there isn't something spectacular to behold. And this December is no exception. In addition to the traditional events we discussed in our last Inn blog, we are so excited to be the only US city to host the Renaissance to Goya: Prints and Drawings from Spain exhibit. And in celebration, Inn of the Governors brings you a great package offer. It includes a three night’s stay in a traditional room with a king or two queen beds , a four day complimentary New Mexico Museum pass for two, and $20 gift card to the New Mexico Museum of Art Shop. But, what Santa Fe special would be complete without the addition of a delicious meal at “the one and only” La Boca. This “local’s favorite” Spanish restaurant features Mediterranean and South American wines, a knowledgeable staff and a menu full of vegetarian, fish and meat based tapas. You will come for the exhibit, enjoy the accommodations and love the food.

From December 20th to 24th, you will be sure to spot one or more of our fabulous staff at the A Baroque Christmas to enjoy the holiday tunes from Bach, Handel, Telemann and other traditional Christmas carols. Purchase your tickets in advance as this is a popular event. The music is divine and the venue, the Loretto Chapel, makes it that much more magical during this festive time of year. Best known for the miraculous spiral staircase, this 1878 chapel is host to mysteries of physics, design innovation not to be believed and much conjecture as to who the stairway's carpenter really might be. Ablaze in candle light and filled with beautiful notes of holiday carols, this event will be a memory long treasured after the final chord is played.

Santa Fe is known for its galleries and artists but being selected as the only city to host the Renaissance to Goya exhibit really puts New Mexico on the international stage for great art. This is the only place in the United States where this stunning exhibit from the British Museum can be viewed and time is short. This beautifully showcased exhibit can be viewed from December 14 – March 9, 2014. The combination of drawings and prints from artists residing in Spain from the mid 1500's to the early 19th century is not to be missed. Showcasing works from 16th-century artists working in Madrid, Spain’s ‘Golden Age’ (the 17th century) and iconic pieces from Francisco de Goya during the 1800's this New Mexico Museum of Art exhibit is sure to be the talk of the town for years to come.

From the Inn of the Governors family to yours, Feliz Navidad!
