Santa Fe is Getting into the Holiday Spirit!

From the smell of the piñon fireplaces to chilly mornings, it is clearly time for all of us to start enjoying all that our great “city different” has to offer this season. Santa Fe Farmer's Market houses an eclectic and authentic array of local businesses; after fueling up at the Café Fresh, the market’s café, you can enjoy shopping for unusual pot holders, fabulous bags by Designs of Erika and warm wooly mittens. Round it off with a wine tasting at Vivac Winery and some specialty tea gifts at Artful Tea and chocolate from the Chocolatesmith. There is certainly something for everyone on your list at the farmer's market so stop by on Tuesday or Saturday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. to experience one of the best farmer's markets in the nation.

The farmer's market isn’t the only place to get one of kind gifts for your loved ones. If you are looking for a trip on the really wild and artistic side, the Museum of International Folk Art gift shop is a must. Once here, stop by and see the new Pottery of the U.S. South: A Living Tradition exhibit. Should you miss this one, check out the events calendar to see what is going on next. If your kids are with you, one of the most amazing permanent exhibits in Santa Fe is in the Girard Wing, where dolls and toys from all over the world are displayed in elaborate dioramas, including a holiday dinner celebration with gifts for all at the table. This is a collection that needs to be seen to be believed with more than 135,000 artifacts; it is the world’s largest collection of folk art and only in Santa Fe.

What better way to cap off a full day of shopping in downtown Santa Fe or in the galleries of Canyon Road, than to settle down for a flavorful meal in a warm, inviting atmosphere. Luckily, Santa Fe has a new restaurant to fill that bill. One of the City Different’s favorite chefs has opened his own restaurant just a few blocks from the Inn.  Joel Coleman is a favorite among local Santafeans and we encourage you to try his new "gastropub" Fire and Hops. Here's a link to the "Hops and Cider list" for those who enjoy a specially crafted draft or bottle.  Just in case your interested in different fare, here's our dining list for all of our favorite recommendations when visiting us this season.

From all of us at the Inn of the Governors, have a safe and memorable holiday season.
