Feliz Ano Nuevo!

Santa Fe has enjoyed a wonderful holiday season. One of our warmest days of the winter, January 1st, set the stage for fulfilling a New Year’s resolution of health and enjoying nature. Santa Fe’s Dale Ball trails beckon with their network of trails accommodating multiple skill levels and, of course, their stunning views. You’ll share the trails with hikers and mountain bikers, both seeking our refreshing mountain air and a bit of our blue skies and sunshine.

Either before you head out on the trails or when you have made it down the mountain, we encourage you to pause for a moment and breathe in deeply the rich aromas of our favorite chocolate house. Oh, but for the love of chocolate! Who wouldn’t want to check off their bucket list enjoying a unique hot chocolate in one of the “Top 10 most luxurious places to drink hot chocolate?” This is no ordinary place to have hot chocolate. This is Kakawa! Where have you ever had Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican Mayan Aztec drinking chocolates? Known as elixirs, this indulgence is an experience full of intense flavor, highly spiced with native herbs, flowers and chiles. And it is dark chocolate which has been said to contain several chemical compounds that have a positive effect on your mood and cognitive health. Now…. that is certainly keeping in line with “our” New Year’s resolutions.

There are very few ways to exploit a great hike’s endorphins and the mood lifting benefits of dark chocolate then to enjoy Santa Fe’s fine art and to peer into our native history. Stroll through any of the New Mexico State Museums to experience both or we invite you to view the most recent exhibit at the Georgia O’Keeffe museum titled “Modern Nature – Georgia O’Keeffe and Lake George”. This exhibit runs through January 26, 2014 and is definitely not to be missed. Please note that the museum will be changing exhibits between January 27, 2014 – February 7, 2014. During this time, the first and second galleries will still be open for viewing and they will be having docent tours to the research center at 135 Grant Street. The cost for admission at this time will be $5.00. Look for their new exhibit opening on February 7, 2014 titled “Georgia O’Keeffe and Ansel Adams: The Hawaii Pictures”.

Happy 2014 from all of us at the Inn of the Governors and if you need any assistance with planning your next trip to Santa Fe, please contact us at reservations@innofthegovernors.com.
