Santa Fe connects her visitors to a multitude of experiences; some calming, some spiritual, others romantic or culinary, and then let’s not omit the music, culture, and outdoors. When you meet people who live here, there is usually a tale of a particular sunset at the Santa Fe Opera or a snowy winter walk through Museum Hill that they can pinpoint as the precise moment they knew they wanted to make Santa Fe their home. For those of you that choose Inn of the Governors to be “your home in the heart of Santa Fe,” you can find a myriad of new experiences waiting around the corner to enrich your life and create a special memory with your loved ones.
When thinking back to those special memories, how many times do you remember cooking together as the highlight? Sleeves rolled up, the smell of herbs and spices filling the air, catching up on each other’s lives while preparing the families favorite recipes—it’s hard pressed to beat those sensory moments we shared together over the years. In that spirit, Santa Fe School of Cooking offers the Southwest Christmas Cooking demonstration to help prepare for future family gatherings, but with an added Southwest flair. Sit back, watch the school put together a fabulous meal, eat the offerings (the best part, of course, next to not doing the dishes), and walk away with tips and recipes to use as long as you can still read the words through all the oil, flour, and wine stains.
Once you have satisfied your stomach’s Santa Fe yearnings, work off the calories exploring Santa Fe’s Botanical Garden at Museum Hill. Just a short drive from the Inn, the Botanical Garden offers a gorgeous view of the sunset and, starting Dec. 5th, five weeks of “beauty and intrigue” thanks to GLOW – A Winter Light Event. The botanical garden serves up the subtle beauty of the high mountain desert set with a back drop of spectacular mountains, distant views and all within steps of the Museum Hill's cultural diversity. We highly recommend spending an afternoon at the museums, then grabbing a bite at the Museum Hill Café to unwind before heading back downtown for whatever next adventure awaits you.
Speaking of enhancing experiences, December is the last month to view the Georgia O’Keeffe’s most recent exhibit, Modern Nature – Georgia O’Keeffe and Lake George. This twenty nine canvas collection demonstrates that "Lake George served as a rural retreat for the artist, providing the basic material for her art, while evoking the spirit of place that was essential to O’Keeffe’s modern approach to the natural world."
We look forward to hosting you at the Inn of the Governors as your connection to all that Santa Fe has to offer. Experience a feast for your palate, your eyes, and your soul this December in Santa Fe!
