My mother endowed me with certain joys throughout my youth: a love of the outdoors-crisp cool Spring days in the Southern Idaho mountains, evenings of spontaneous fondue and campy horror films, and a rich collection of music records. The fondue and campy horror films still hold a place in my heart, but they have taken a back seat to music and mountains without question. So when asked why I chose to move to Santa Fe I most immediately site the way this humbly populated capital city backs up against the Sangre de Cristos and its rich array of musical expression. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Lyle Lovett, Bruce Cockburn, Bobby McFerrin, Bill Palmer and the TV Killers, David Byrne, The Pixies, a slew of world class Operas, local blue grass bands, New York’s Brooklyn Circle Jazz Quartet…just to name a few.
That extensive music collection my mom shared with me focused primarily on classical music, more specifically the Baroque composures like Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Pachalbel. So naturally, I’m keen on experiencing Santa Fe Pro Musica’s Baroque Holy week on April 17, 18, and 19. During these days they will be featuring the Santa Fe Pro Musica Baroque Ensemble and Kathryn Mueller performing pieces by Purcell, Pergolesi, Corellis, Bach, and Handel. Most appropriately, the performances are being held at the Loretto Chapel (home to the Miracle Staircase). Here’s the link to purchase your tickets. What a splendid way to ring in Easter weekend—an afternoon strolling about Santa Fe aka ….wait for it……La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asísi, experiencing world class cuisine, soaking in the Sangre de Cristo’s blood orange colors as the sun sets, listening to inspiring music, and rising the next morning for the Inn’s Mountain Sunrise Breakfast.
Springtime is a time of awakening and reflection on the things that bring joy to our lives-a time of gratitude. We, at the Inn, are grateful for the azure skies that blanket the Sangre de Cristos, the crisp clean air, the diverse people that make Santa Fe what it is, historic architecture and cultural representation, the rich spirituality surrounding us, the myriad of inspiring art on every corner, another seasonal rotation reminding us that time comes and goes, but beauty and rebirth remain. And of course, we are grateful for our loyal return guests who keep the Inn’s spirit of Hospitality alive.
