Bandelier National Monument and State Park
Take a road trip to Bandelier National Monument and State Park, located approximately 40 miles northwest of Santa Fe, near Los Alamos, NM. Bandelier is the site of Ancestral Pueblo Indian cliff dwellings and surface villages dating form the 12th – 16th centuries. Upon arrival, the first stop is the Visitor Center to view a slide show and artifacts. Then venture outdoors to the main sites that are along a loop trail that provides visitors a good sampling of the structures used by the ancient dwellers. Guests are encouraged to venture off the main trail onto more then 1.5 miles of self-guided trails leading to cave structures, petroglyphs and rock structures.
The surrounding scenery is just as breathtaking. Bandelier offers a 360? panoramic view of the mesa, cliffs, Jemez Mountains, Rio Grande and Santa Fe National Forest. On over 33,000 acres, Bandelier has all levels of hiking trails. Bandelier National Monument offers something for every family member and activity level.
